Proactive Focusing in the Work Place:
Much of our life is spent in the work place. Rapid changes in the world makes today's work place an arena of almost constant uncertainty, demanding from all of us that we make decisions and take actions. Those who succeed are those who take charge, take reasonable risks and act in spite of doubts. You can take all the training workshops, have exceptional knowledge of your business, master every business review article but unless you get beyond your personal obstacles, your own blocks you will not move forward. Self awareness, asking the important questions, focusing on obstacles, will allow you to make those choices which are right for you, your co- workers and your organization. If you want to manage, if you want to lead, begin by proactively focusing on yourself.
Proactive Focusing and Career:
When you were 12 years old you might have known what you will be when you grow up. You were going to be a fireman, a doctor or a ballerina. But now in your adult life you come face to face with the 21st century realities. The world of a linear career path, 30 year secure path of tenure is the world of the past. Today, most of us have to take multiple career paths; Now you have to micro manage your work life. What job do you take? What job do you leave? Should I seek new training? Should I pursue a graduate degree? If I take a lower paid job that gives me experience how will that look in my resume?
If you've been busy doing other things such as raising a family or going to school and have now decided to enter the work place, you may ask yourself : what will be your new path? How do you go about making that decision? You might hear conflicting voices in you telling you different things or you might not know what are your aspirations.
Your career is in your hands and will be based on the decisions you make. Delay these decisions and in turn you may find that it is too late to act. Proactive career management requires that you focus and find out what you want to do next and how you will go about doing it. |
