What is focusing?

Focusing is a practice of inner awareness developed by Eugene Gendlin, PhD, at the University of Chicago. It is a way of sensing your body.  Focusing gives us an awarenes of what our body is telling us about as to issues we need to pay attention to in our life. Focusing happens where body and mind meet. It consists of specific steps of getting a body sense of how you "are" in a particular life situation. At first, the body sense is unclear and vague, but if you continue to pay attention to it, it will open up into words or images and you will experience a shift in your body.

In the process of Focusing, one experiences a physical change. It is a way of listening to your body and finding from within your true self what needs to happen to move forward.

Focusing creates a positive inner relationship with all that you experience. It takes listening to your felt body sense and being curious and respectful of all that comes up so change can occur naturally.
